On December 2, 1913, the Marchioness de Ahumada, née Princess Marguérite Baratoff, a widow residing in Paris, obtained a patent for a novel process for producing motor spirit. Her invention described a mixture of petrol, benzine, or their isomers with ether which, in combination with white phosphorus, carbon disulphide, and alcohol, could serve as a fuel for car and aeroplane engines.
