Improvement in Drinking-cups for the Sick.

On November 14, 1865, Martha P. Codman, then residing in Boston, was awarded a patent for designing a novel drinking vessel. Her invention was intended to enable a sick person lying horizontally to drink comfortably without needing to change position.
