Improvements in Bands or Pieces of Fabric Provided with Buttonholes or Buttons, for Fastening Linen, Articles of Clothing, and the Like.

On September 14, 1901, Baroness Agnes Bischoffshausen of Coelnische, near Kassel, patented a novel system for making buttonholes. Her invention introduced pre-made buttonhole strips that could be sewn directly onto clothing or linens, replacing time-consuming hand stitching.
