Improved Steamer for Cooking Purposes.

On March 13, 1897, Tabitha Bailey, a greengrocer of Beckenham, Kent, patented an improved steamer for cooking purposes that used a saucepan with a grooved, steam-sealing lid to prevent the escape of steam and water. Her invention also included a perforated false bottom and a raised outlet to control water level.
