On December 4, 1924, Phyllis Rosalie Manger, then residing in the United Kingdom, patented a novel umbrella with a detachable handle and tip. Designed for compact packing, it also featured a looped handle that could slip over the user’s arm to prevent the umbrella from being forgotten or lost.
