On June 27, 1912, Mrs Oline Haagensen of Aarhus, Denmark, patented an improved process for cleaning and refinishing light-coloured boots. By carefully removing old polish and applying layered colouring and wax finishes, worn footwear could be restored to a glossy appearance resistant to water and polish.
