On February 10, 1948, Leslie T. Sutherland assigned a patent to Allied Chemical & Dye Corporation; her invention described improving butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber by compounding it with special alcohol esters to increase heat resistance, solvent resistance, and tensile strength.
