Improvements in Balls for Practising Golf.

On October 15, 1914, Helen Louisa Martin, a hospital matron at Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, UK, was awarded a patent for an improved golf ball. Her invention consisted of cork packing or chips, sawdust, cotton wool, or wood wool bound together with thread and encased in a jaconet exterior, all secured with a rubber solution.
