On September 15, 1904, Emily Susanne Gray of Streatham Lodge near London was awarded a patent for developing novel Venetian blinds. Her design featured tassel fringes attached to the bottom slats of the blinds through loops and concealed fastenings that allowed the tassels to hang securely without interfering with the blind’s operation.
