A Commode.

On September 4, 1897, Cora Genevieve Mann of Brooklyn, New York, patented a commode designed to attach directly to any bedstead. Its folding, height-adjustable seat let patients move from bed to commode without exposure, while the entire unit could be compactly folded when not in use.
