On January 1, 1901, Celestia E. Kerr of Decatur, Georgia, obtained a patent for a novel drawing and measuring instrument combining multiple tools into a single device. The invention integrated a ruler, T-square, protractor, compass, and adjustable arms with folding and locking features to enable accurate measuring and angle setting.
