On February 1, 1917, Baroness Anna Hedda Adelaide de Mecklembourg of Lausanne, Switzerland, was awarded a patent for inventing a collapsible night chair. The chair was designed for easy transportation and featured collapsible, extendable legs that could be securely attached to a plate.
